The Teacher Trailers website, published by the FDA, says that a film should be able to clearly signal the genre so that audiences are able to decide if the film would appeal to them. There should also be a unique selling point in the trailer and film too so that it has something new to offer the audience. USP- Unique Selling Point.
- the innovative use of special effects
- an unusual mix of genres
- a popular star

Given three trailers, I identified what was the USP in each:
LION KING:
USP- A film which has only animal characters. They speak and the animation quality is extremely realistic. Studio Ghibli creates this hyper-realistic animation too which draws in an adult audience too due to its amazing quality.
Beautifully presented work. You have made excellent use of the FDA's 'Teaching Trailers' resource which in this unit explained that audiences like to recognise genre when they watch a trailer, but that in order to attract audiences into the cinema, all films should offer a USP. The task asked you to identify the USP of three films.
ReplyDeleteTHE LION KING You identify the high quality animation and astutely link this to the similar quality of films by Studio Ghibli - these, like The Lion King, appeal to adult audiences as well as children, thereby broadening their appeal.
LATE NIGHT Spot on with your recognition of the USPs of the themes of empowerment and the casting of A listers.
SPIES IN DISGUISE You could mention the mix of comedy and spy as one USP; you identify the key draw of A listers, (note diversity of representations).
