FILM POSTERS

DODGING A BULLET FILM POSTER:

PLANNING: POSTER DRAFTS

When planning our posters, we worked as a group to produce initial ideas. One draft that I mainly came up with is the image above. I really liked the idea of a picture frame as the boarder of the poster. We played with the idea of an actual picture frame. As I was developing my poster, I edited my blog's background to the painting that we steal in the trailer which I decided made a great backing image. I put this as the 'frame' of my poster instead of a generated frame as it made it more relevant to my production. I placed the credits in the same position, which is standard for the majority, if not all, of film posters. This was one of the drafts that we made. The original one was made online as it is a clearer layout compared to drawing. I did a drawing when planning my poster which is more similar to my final draft:

I made a few different versions before deciding on my final poster. Originally, I had placed myself and the boss higher up on the poster and larger to highlight their powerful position. However, I realised that in posters, such as the 'Endgame' Marvel poster, that the larger the person, the higher significance they have as a character. All of our criminals are of equal importance, despite my character being the boss. Thereofore, I made all characters roughly the same size as well as enlarging the three criminals with the painting as that is a key element of our production.

  1. You furnish detailed evidence of relevant genre research into film posters of a similar type and your finished result shows confident application of poster genre codes and conventions (including all the institutional requirements). You offer clear evidence of the planning of your design. Your film poster effectively conveys the film's theme with its strong central image of the principals as the centre of visual interest shrouded in shadows, its picture frame and the bright colours of the stolen painting. A witty design.
